Pattaya Travel Guide for Beaches, Islands & the Night

This beach city on the Gulf is about two hours from Bangkok, and loudest along the main bay. The swim is a ferry to Koh Larn, the hall worth the ride is still being carved at Naklua, and the weekend market is where the city eats. Use this guide to plan the beach, the island, and which evening you actually want.

01

Pattaya Food

Grilled seafood is the meal here. Price it before it reaches the fire. Use the inland market when you want many stalls, and Naklua when you want to choose the fish yourself.

Beach Seafood

01 — Grilled seafood

Beach Seafood

Restaurants along Pattaya Beach and Jomtien grill prawns, crab, and whole fish to order. Ask whether the number on the board is per piece or per kilo, and agree it before the food goes on the fire. A set platter is often the expensive way to order the same thing. If the price is by weight, watch them weigh it.

Thepprasit Night Market

02 — Night market

Thepprasit Night Market

The city's main night market is on Thepprasit Road, inland from the beach, toward Sukhumvit. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are the nights every listing agrees on, from about five. Some 2026 pages say it now opens every evening, with fewer stalls on a weeknight, so check the market's own page before a Monday-to-Thursday visit. Listings also disagree on the close, about half past ten or eleven. Bring cash in small notes. Eat here when you want many small plates instead of one beach menu.

Naklua Seafood Market

03 — Lan Pho

Naklua Seafood Market

Lan Pho is the seafood market in Naklua, the older fishing district north of the main bay. Choose the prawns, crab, or fish, and agree the price by the kilo before anyone cooks it. Stalls nearby will grill or steam what you bought. Ask the cooking charge first. Listings disagree on the opening hour, so go in the morning or early afternoon, not at the end of the day.

02

Beaches and the Hill

The central beach is for the walk. Swim at Jomtien, or on the north beach if you want less road behind you. The hill between the two main beaches is the view.

Pattaya Beach

City beach · Beach Road

Pattaya Beach

The main bay is the convenient beach: a walk, a chair, and dinner with the water in front of you. It is not the swim. The shared songthaew, the baht bus, runs this road and Second Road. Name the beach or the soi, and pay the fare written on the sign. Use it for the evening stroll, then leave the swimming to another beach.

Jomtien Beach

South beach · Easier swim

Jomtien Beach

South of Pratamnak Hill, Jomtien is longer and calmer than the central bay. It is still a city beach. Jet-ski touts and beach chairs work this sand. Agree the chair price, and the price of any ride, before you start. This is the mainland beach to spend a few hours on. It is not a substitute for the island.

Wong Amat Beach

North beach · Naklua

Wong Amat Beach

Wong Amat is the beach in Naklua, north of the main bay. Hotels stand behind the sand, and there is no beach road along it, so it is calmer than Beach Road. Rocks break the shore into stretches. Swim where the sand is open and the sea is calm, and stay off the rocks. It drew more visitors through 2026, so do not expect an empty cove. Public lanes reach the sand. Do not walk through a hotel to get there. The wooden hall is at the north end of this coast, so keep the beach short if you are also going inside.

Pratamnak Hill

Big Buddha · Bay view

Pratamnak Hill

The headland between Pattaya Beach and Jomtien. Wat Phra Yai is a golden seated Buddha at the top of a stair. A viewpoint on the same hill looks back over the bay. Late afternoon is the hour, when the haze drops and the walk is cooler. Cover shoulders and knees at the Buddha. It fits the end of a beach day. It does not replace a morning spent on Koh Larn or at the Sanctuary of Truth.

03

Pattaya After Dark

Walking Street

South Pattaya · After dusk

Walking Street

Walking Street is the south end of Beach Road, and it starts around dusk. Neon, bars, and food stalls. It is an adult street. The Koh Larn ferry returns to Bali Hai pier at this same end of town, so a family coming off the last boat should leave by car rather than walk the street. If the evening is the theatre, you do not also need this street.

Tiffany's Show

Cabaret · Second Road

Tiffany's Show

A seated costume revue in a theatre on Second Road, with several shows each evening. Book the date and the seat on the theatre's own site. Sales are final, so book once the day is fixed, and check the time again when you do. The show ends on a clock. You are not buying a night out with no finish.

Alcazar

Cabaret · Second Road

Alcazar

The other long-running revue, also on Second Road, with its own set of evening shows. Book on that theatre's site, not a third-party stall on Beach Road. Times move, so read the time for the date you pick. Seat names and prices change with the night. This and Tiffany's are the same kind of evening. See one.

Walking Street is the loud end of the beach. A theatre seat is the evening that starts and ends on a clock. Both long-running revues are on Second Road. Book one, not a crawl of all of them.

04

Half Days off the Beach

The wooden hall and the garden each take half a day. Neither fits the same morning as the island.

Sanctuary of Truth

Carved wood · Naklua

Sanctuary of Truth

A wooden hall on the Naklua headland, begun in 1981 and still being carved. It is a museum, not a working temple. You go in with a tour, and you wear the helmet they give you. Day and night are separate tickets. Buy the one printed on the board that day, and do not treat a blog's price as the ticket. Cover shoulders and knees. The hall is about fifteen minutes north of the central beach. Skip any add-on that puts you on an elephant. See it in the morning, or as a night ticket on its own. It does not share a morning with Koh Larn.

Nong Nooch Garden

Tropical garden · Half day

Nong Nooch Garden

A large garden south of Jomtien, on the way toward Sattahip. The cultural show runs at set times, and the garden is built around that show, not a quick photo at the gate. Confirm that day's times before you plan the afternoon around them. Allow half a day, including the ride down and back. It does not combine with the island, and it is a poor add-on after a morning at the hall.

05

Koh Larn

This is the swim. The mainland beaches are the walk. Give the island its own day, and read the pier board that morning.

The Ferry from Bali Hai

Pier A · South Pattaya

The Ferry from Bali Hai

The public ferry leaves Bali Hai Pier A, at the south end of Beach Road. Na Baan and Tawaen are different piers on the island, and not every boat goes to both. Ask which pier your boat uses before you pay. The crossing is about forty minutes when the sea is calm. Fare listings disagree, so pay the number on that morning's board. Bring cash. In the rainy months, boats are cancelled when the sea is rough. Have another plan for that day.

Tawaen or Na Baan

Two piers · One day

Tawaen or Na Baan

Tawaen is the busy beach, and some ferries land on it. You step off onto sand, chairs, restaurants, and water sports. Agree the chair price, and the price and duration of any ride, before you start. Na Baan is the village pier, with shops and the songthaews. Land there if you might want a second beach. Samae and Tien are further along the island. They are a later stop, not the first hour, and only if the ride back to the pier still leaves you on an early boat.

The Last Boat Back

Read the board · Leave early

The Last Boat Back

A late-2026 operator board listed the last boat at 18:00 from Na Baan and 17:00 from Tawaen. Treat that as a warning, not a promise. Read the board when you arrive, and take an earlier boat if the sea is getting up. Island songthaews run from a pier to a beach, not in a city loop. Agree the fare before you sit down. You come back to Bali Hai, at the south end of Walking Street. After dusk, a family should leave by car rather than walk that street.
